Skilled Nursing- a work of the HEART

Often, we get patients that come through our doors because of various heart problems- such as patients seeking rehab following a pacemaker placement, congestive heart failure, or other cardiovascular diseases that impact their ability to safely return home and complete activities of daily living (ADLs).

This being said, it is very important to be proactive, and do what we can to care for our heart health before one of these events occur. The American Heart Association recommends these “Simple 7” changes people can make in order to do what we can to keep our cardiovascular system in tip top shape!

  1. Manage Blood Pressure
  2. Control Cholesterol
  3. Reduce Blood Sugar
  4. Get Active
  5. Eat Better
  6. Lose Weight
  7. Stop Smoking

If you are concerned about your cardiovascular health, and have made efforts to address the above, please contact your doctor and request an appointment. The American Heart Association is a great resource for anyone looking to learn more about heart health and the resources available (heart.org).

…. and with it being February, we thought it would be appropriate to end this blog with some of the things that our patients and staff LOVE about Sunterra Springs-

“The staff cared for my father like he was their beloved parent. They were kind, compassionate and encouraging when he needed the motivation to do the work. The therapy is first rate and I think life saving. The facility is first rate. My dad was not eating and the dietitian asked what she could make for him that he would eat. You see the administration and director of nursing interacting with the patients and their families. Thank you all!”

“If I could give 10 stars I would. Sunterra is on the top of their game in all aspects of care. No billing surprises at all. Everything is transparent. They are dedicated, professional, and a very skilled team. The food, cleanliness of the building and rooms, professionalism, and nursing care and physical therapy are second to none. If you are looking for peace of mind as your loved one recovers, you’ll not find a better place.”

“My mom came home today after a 37 day stay at Sunterra springs. She had the very best care! I cannot name one single staff person that wasn’t helpful, polite and caring. She is 94 1/2 and broke her femur. The physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy was all top notch. When she arrived she could only take three steps and was in extreme pain. Today she walked out with her walker, hugging everyone and crying because she’s going to miss them. She said, ‘The one positive thing about my break is that I got to meet all of you.’ THANK YOU to everyone on staff!”

“My mom says she felt like she was “treated like a queen!”. She was very impressed. Didn’t know there were places like that, that treat elderly with kindness and respect. The freedom to move around and be yourself and to include others when singing, playing cards and visiting. Such a sweet atmosphere to recuperate. Loved the individual choices of meals, dining companions, chef and staff!”

“The therapists were not only good at what they do, they made tasks fun and had a great sense of humor. Keep that balloon going girls!! Loved the extra silly game we played with butt ball boxes. Hilarious and sneaky way to get us up and moving. All of the staff, nurses, aids and all employees. Keep up the great work. Miss you all!”

Thank you so much!

“Great place to work, with supportive and caring leadership. Big, beautiful therapy gym with all the equipment needed to get patients stronger and back home! For therapists looking to apply for a job, this is really a dream facility!”
