Happy Occupational Therapy Month!
Happy Occupational Therapy Month!
Occupational therapy (OT) is one of the three therapy services we offer at our Sunterra Springs locations, and with it being OT month, we wanted to dedicate this blog post to our occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants and the great work they provide for our patients.
Occupational therapy, as the name may allude, has nothing to do with helping you get a new job! In fact, occupational therapy helps individuals gain the necessary skills and strength in order to complete activities of daily living (ADLs). ADLs include the following:
- bathing
- dressing
- feeding
- grooming
- household chores
- functional mobility
At Sunterra Springs, our OTs work with patients following a hospitalization regain their independence in these areas, either with or without the use of adaptive equipment (reachers, sock aids, dressing sticks, grab bars, etc) prior to returning home or transitioning to a new living environment.
We are grateful to our occupational therapists and the services they provide for our patients. If you find yourself in need of these services following a hospitalization, I hope you would consider Sunterra Springs as a part of your rehabilitation journey back to independence.
